Superintendent's Message - 2010-2011

Dear Parents and Members of the River Edge Community,

It is with great joy and tremendous excitement that I assumed the position of Superintendent of School for the River Edge School District on July 1, 2010. Prior to coming to River Edge I devoted my professional life to guiding the education of students in the capacity of Principal in Tenafly, NJ, and as a Head of School in the private sector , as well as teaching students of all ages. In my various roles I facilitated the development of curriculum and the growth of numerous professionals. I also worked closely with parents and the entire school community to enhance learning.

Since my arrival in River Edge I have been very impressed with the commitment of the entire community to education thus reinforcing my excitement about joining the district. In my attempt to learn all that I can about the school district and community I posed the following question to members of various constituencies: "what do you like best about the River Edge Community?" It is my pleasure to report that in many of these conversations the answer I received was along the following lines: "what's great about this district is that kids always come first." The answer couldn't have made me happier as it represents a perfect match for the values that have always guided my decision making process.

I know that I have embarked on my new role during difficult economic times for the community and the impact of fiscal challenges on the education of children can't be ignored. At the same time, under my leadership, the principle of always putting the needs of students first will continue to guide the responsible decision making of the River Edge School District. Working with the Board of Education, school staff, and the parent community, challenges notwithstanding, I offer you my unwavering commitment to sustain and move forward the tradition of excellence in River Edge. I am a firm believer in advancing the education of students through a healthy integration of tradition and innovation while being mindful of controlling costs for the community.
